15 September 2016 – Employee Performance Management – Burnley

The event will focus on Employee Performance Management.

Employee Performance Management.

Join us at our next HR Exchange event on Thursday 15 September at our new venue – Burnley College, Princess Way, Burnley BB12 0AN.

So what’s the point of appraisals?

Our September HR Exchange event in Lancashire focuses on the tricky topic of employee performance management and whether the appraisal process still has a valid part to play in today’s business world.

Our guest speaker will be Neal Chamberlain, who has worked as a senior HR professional in large corporations and now leads the people and organisation consultancy, A1 Performance Consulting, and whose experience in this area provides both a consultancy and an operational HR perspective.

More and more organisations, large and small, are moving away from the ‘traditional’ performance appraisal, with ever-shortening business cycles, the feedback needs of the modern workforce and the need to drive quality conversations being cited as the reasons for this.

How do the management and staff in your business feel about the appraisal process? Are appraisals seen as a valuable use of time or as non-productive ‘energy-sappers’? Are they simply something you do because you always have or are they a valid method of encouraging better performance and increased employee engagement? Maybe you don’t do appraisals at all and, if not, should you start?

Neal’s engaging and lively session will review current and emerging practices in the management of employee performance, looking at the merits of different approaches and available research on topics such as the impact of performance ratings on collaborative and competitive behaviour.

Peter Byrne, Employment Law Partner at Taylors will then look at the legal issues involved in managing employee performance and encouraging and achieving improvement. He will look at the legal and practical steps you need to take when following a formal performance improvement process and discuss the need for a formal procedure, the conduct of performance hearings and the use of investigation, coaching and mentoring. He will also highlight some of the pitfalls that can occur when issues such as ill health are a factor in unsatisfactory performance.

The session will end with our usual employment law update, also presented by Taylors Solicitors.

Numbers are limited, so please make sure that you reserve your place as soon as possible by booking online now.

We look forward to seeing you on 15th September!

It’s sure to be a fantastic and informative event – don’t miss it!
